PLEDGE
Frequently asked questions
Questions answered on this page about the pledge:
Why should my company take the pledge?
Taking the pledge signals to your customers, employees, community, and other stakeholders that you are committed to using technology and data ethically, responsibly and sustainably.
It can mark the start of embedding sustainable digitalisation in your organisation, so you don't need to be perfect at the outset. You just need to be able to show demonstrable progress over time.
Note: company logos will be displayed on the SDP website.
Is the pledge and compliance framework and, if so, is certification required?
Neither the pledge, the principles or the frameworks are a formal compliance framework. They are guidelines and tools to support demonstrable sustainable digitalisation. No additional certification is required.
Is it only relevant to technology companies?
All companies are using technology for internal and external applications which makes the pledge relevant for everyone.
Does it cost anything?
While there is no cost to taking the pledge, signing it requires your organisation to measure and commit to improving your sustainable digitalisation practices. Our free frameworks are an easy way to get started.
Who takes the pledge?
The company is taking the pledge therefore any authorised representative of the company can sign on the company’s behalf. See below for ideas on who to involve in embedding sustainable digitalisation once the pledge is signed.
How do we start embedding sustainable digitalisation?
To embed sustainable digitalisation, organisations need to treat it as a long-term strategy. It’s not just about leveraging the latest technology, it’s about making sure your digital or technology strategies align with your organisation’s broader environmental, social, and economic (ESG) goals.
Here’s our suggestion on how organisations can approach it:
CEO (Chief Executive Officer)
Sets the vision, champions sustainable digitalisation and drives the shift to long-term thinking.
CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer)
Leads the sustainability strategy and connects it to digital materiality, expectations, and KPIs.
CIO/CDO (Chief Information/Digital Officer)
Designs, deploys, and manages the digital solutions in alignment with sustainable digitalisation practices. Measures and manages performance against KPIs.

Who’s responsible for sustainable digitalisation in my organisation?
Sustainable digitalisation is a team effort. No single person owns it - it needs support across the organisation.
Take the next step
Now that you've taken the pledge let's show how you're bringing sustainable digitalisation practices to life in your organisation. A great way to do this is by applying our frameworks to both your organisational practices and your digital solutions.
